Polypropylene Cotton, Activated Carbon and Reverse Osmosis Filters: Key Players in Water Purification
Due to aging infrastructure, compromised water sources, and tight community budgets, our daily tap water may contain chlorides and harmful pathogens. From the past to the present, our drinking water safety has always been under numerous threats, which has led more and more people to purchase water purifiers to ensure water safety. However, many people are unclear about the functions of various filters in water purifiers. Here, we will introduce the three filters that often appear in water purifiers, namely Polypropylene cotton, activated carbon, and Reverse Osmosis filters, in order of their functions.
1.Polypropylene Cotton FilterPolypropylene cotton has high precision and long lifespan, and can filter out:
- Large particles
- Sediment, rust, etc.
Polypropylene cotton filters are often used as pre-filters in water purifiers, removing large particles and effectively protecting subsequent filters from clogging.
2.Activated Carbon FilterActivated carbon filters have a large surface area, which allows them to absorb a large amount of chemicals, including:
- Odd smells and residual chlorine
- Heavy metals and organic compounds
Activated carbon filters can effectively adsorb odd smells and harmful chemicals, improving the taste of water. They are often used as mid-filters in water purifiers.
3. Reverse Osmosis FiltersRO filters, or reverse osmosis filters, are the core components of Reverse Osmosis water purifiers. They can filter out nearly all contaminants, including:
- Inorganic salts, including arsenic compounds, fluorides, chlorides, nitrates, etc.
- Organic compounds, including insecticides, herbicides, and pesticides
- Dissolved solids such as calcium, magnesium, and sodium
- Heavy metals including lead, iron, aluminum, and cadmium, etc.
- Residual chlorine
- Parasites, bacteria, viruses
- Drugs in aqueous solutions
Its function is to filter water through a reverse osmosis membrane into pure water, which can filter out 97%-99% of contaminants and achieve very effective filtering for most substances, ensuring the safety of the filtered water.
Polypropylene cotton, activated carbon, and Reverse Osmosis filters each play important roles in water purifiers. Polypropylene cotton mainly filters out large particles, sediment and other impurities in the water and protects subsequent filters from clogging; activated carbon mainly removes odd smells, residual chlorine and harmful chemicals from the water and reduces the corrosion of Reverse Osmosis filters by corrosive chemicals; while Reverse Osmosis filters remove dissolved solids, bacteria, viruses and other pollutants from the water through reverse osmosis technology to obtain pure water. When selecting a water purifier, attention should be paid to the quality and performance of these filters to ensure the safety and health of drinking water.
